Mr. Stutlin, Wells County Auditor, calls property tax meeting on 10/2/2024 and lines up services to speak about the dependency of the services on property tax. Main point was the People’s Measure 4 should not pass due to loss of funding. Rick Becker, the chairman of Measure 4, was in the audience. Dan graciously allowed Becker to speak. Becker contradicted the host’s comments, and he took questions from the audience. Representative Nelson and Senator Klein were in the audience. Nelson answered Stutlien question, “Can it be reversed?”, with yes by people’s vote. Nelson also added later, that if it passes, no Prairie Dog funds will be seen. The measure states the legislatures must fund all services with no loss; Yet states officials comment otherwise at the meeting. Discussion included questions from audience of why legislation has not done something about rising property tax when they have the power to do so. Interesting debate! The Auditor is appointed pass voting ballot time without the people’s vote on a ballot. North Dakota trend of bypassing the people ballot vote when the positions were elected positions. Is that right? Is Freedom lost?
