11-22-2024 Harvey School Board Policy Meeting Part 1 of 2

11-22-2024 Harvey School Board Policy Meeting Part 1 of 2

Why add the policy if we do not have the criteria?

This was asked many times asking for definition of school sponsored usage.

Answers were School funded or extracurricular activities. Not excuse absences if not a school sponsored event. Century Code Class B felony states Under 17 of age the school must report missing student after 24 hours to the LAW. The new policy they are creating is about reporting to the parents. Orginally the new policy stated the school had 24 hours to report to the parent if a student is missing. One board member did not like the wording. They are still working on it. It appears that Dr. Luken is getting the understanding. There needs to be accountability to the school to call the parents without delay for safety of the students. The school Administrator wants to give staff time to report just in case they forget to do it right away; however, allowing time through the school day may not protect the school is the student missing is the result of harmful activity. This policy is not completed yet. Parents, Call the school and tell them how you feel about this policy that they are trying to write.

The school administrator wants to leave the wording broad enough to avoid a lawsuit. Where is the wording to assure the parents that there kids are safe when they are attending the school?

Discussion about a policy that restricts bonus. Superintendent infers that it is the State Level on this policy.
